In 2010, Budapest Bank – in collaboration
with SEED Small Business Development
Foundation – launched the program “Dobbantó” –
about finances for women”.

The Program “Dobbantó” aims to expand women’s financial knowledge and in its first phase focuses on developing entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.
The key element of the program is a 12-day competence development training and a club event open to all.

For 10 years now, the “Dobbantó” Program, in a partnership between Budapest Bank and SEED Small Business Development Foundation, has been helping women to develop their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge.
This year, partly as a result of the coronavirus epidemic and partly based on the experience of the past years, the programme’s most popular training, the “Dobbantó” training, has been significantly renewed and for the first time is launched in an online form with a revised educational material.

Women entrepreneurs are underrepresented in the overall business sector compared to their role in society: only one third of the top managers of local businesses are women. According to research by Budapest Bank earlier this year [1], the majority of women are most likely to be held back from starting a business by a lack of confidence or relationships, in addition to financial factors. 61% of women who run their own business say that financial insecurity is a difficulty in their daily lives, 51% have doubts about their self-confidence and 36% have delayed starting a business because of a lack of appropriate contacts.
The results also show the need for initiatives such as the “Dobbantó” Program, Budapest Bank – Finance for Women”, which since 2010 has aimed to support women in enlarging their entrepreneurial skills, networking, helping them to start and develop their businesses.

[1] The representative survey was conducted by NRC between commissioned by Budapest Bank between 25 February and 13 March 2020, among a sample of 1,000 economically active people aged 18-59. Research method: online questionnaire survey using the CAWI research panel.

“Micro and small businesses have become even more vulnerable in the crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemic, so their support has become particularly important. At Budapest Bank, we are committed to supporting businesses in the current period as well, so we are continuing the “Dobbantó” Program at full speed, but in order to preserve the health of the participants, we have moved our next training to an online platform” – said Orsolya Tölgyes, Head of Communications at Budapest Bank.

The implementation of the online training was preceded by an extended preparation phase, where the educational material was developed on the basis of the trainers’ previous experience and feedback from previous participants. Participants will gain a wide range of knowledge, from developing an entrepreneurial idea to business planning and management, as well as modules on self-awareness, finance and marketing basics.

“The spring “Dobbantó” training was hit halfway by the epidemic, and the training, which had previously been based on face-to-face presence and networking, suddenly had to be based online. The success of this training, even in extraordinary circumstances, required the cooperation not only of the trainers, but also of the women involved, who were also very flexible in adapting to the new situation. However, online training has not only meant continuity, it has also developed the digital competences of women entrepreneurs, which I think is even more important now than it was before.” – said Zsuzsanna Lakatosné Lukács, Managing Director of the SEED Foundation.

Dobbantó

The programme is based on adult education accredited training since 2004, which takes place in groups of 20 people and is based on a six-week, 12-day, 90-hour theme. The training not only covers how to start and run a business, but also develops self-awareness, communication and presentation skills. Participants will also gain knowledge on marketing, management, financial resource planning and taxation, which are important for business success. The financial module will also feature a presentation by a small business finance expert from Budapest Bank, with a special focus on making an informed choice of bank and presenting the different forms of financing. At the end of the training, the participants will present the business plan they have developed during the training to each other. This practical experience, together with the constructive feedback from team members and trainers, will also give participants the confidence to be succeeded in similar presentation and negotiation situations in the future. Participants use a closed, online knowledge-sharing platform, which also serves to develop digital competences. Thanks to its methodology, the training can effectively deliver key knowledge and results to women who are already entrepreneurs or planning to start a business. Within the framework of the „Dobbantó” Program.
interested parties can listen to professional presentations and build contacts.
Previous topics have included the use of social media for business, leadership skills, time management, the role of IT technologies in running a business, business protocol and etiquette. During the presentations, successful women entrepreneurs, former participants or experts from other fields will be invited to share their experiences, thus helping to put the presentations into practice. The success of the “Dobbantó” Program is borne out by the numbers: 19 training sessions have been held so far, combined with a number of successful club events, contributing to the success of nearly 2,000 women entrepreneurs.

Tematika

The aim of the training is to provide a brief, comprehensive overview of business skills, including how to plan, start, run, finance, market, present and prepare a business plan.
Participants in the programme will learn skills through a playful training method that will help them to plan and run their business. Throughout the training, from self-study to lectures and situational games to small group work, participants will try out a wide range of activities to deepen their knowledge and share their experiences to help each other during the process as well as in their business.

A képzés hat modulból áll

01

Getting to know each other, building confidence, developing entrepreneurial skills

The first two days are just about the participants, their plans and their businesses. They get to know each other, their business plans, and the entrepreneurial qualities and competences that are essential to start and run a business. By the end of the second day, with the support of the trainers, they will establish a safe atmosphere of trust giving them the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the professional topics of the training and to work on the implementation of their plans in the following weeks.

02

Marketing, online marketing

What does marketing mean for an entrepreneur in the 21st century? What tools can be used to promote the product or service of the business, and what can a start-up or a non-start-up small entrepreneur do if starting and running a business? With the help of our marketing experts, participants will get an overview of international and national marketing basics and case studies, as well as the opportunity to discuss current marketing issues relevant to their own business.

03

Business start-up and business planning

What do we want to achieve with our enterprise, what goals and challenges do we face in a business? Do you have a business plan or business model? How to start a business and what planning is needed? After a joint analysis of different business models, everyone works on their own business plan under professional guidance

04

Small business finance, planning, statements, taxation, financing

How to set up a business in a tax and financial environment, how to plan a budget and what to pay attention to financially in a business, these are the questions that will be answered by the participants together with the SEED Foundation’s CFO. On the first day, in the morning, an expert from Budapest Bank will provide information on the banking options available to businesses, credit assessment and the loan schemes currently available.

05

Business management, presentation preparation

On the first day, a business development expert will take participants deeper into the ins and outs of running a business and “How do we do it more effectively in our business?”

On the second day, a presentation trainer will show you what is a good choice for a presentation: power point, Prezi or “naked presentation”. This day prepares participants to be ready to present their business and/or business plan on the last two days of the training.

06

Presentation of business plans

At some point in every entrepreneur’s life, there comes a time when they have to present the business plan of the company to an audience of all sizes. The final challenge of the training is for the participants to make a live presentation in front of the others and trainers about their enterprise, their business plan and in which direction they will further develop their plans. At the end of the training, participants evaluate the time spent together, the knowledge acquired and the established friendships or business contacts.

VERA GERGELY NOVÁKNÉ

I have 32 years of entrepreneurial experience. 29 of those years were spent in commerce.
Following a generational change last year, I am no longer 100% involved in the management of the MediLine Group, which has freed up my energy. I have built over 10 companies and taken them to success. I would like to pass on my experience to the new generation not just in my own companies.
I am currently working as a mentor in 2 places. In We Team, a private initiative of 13 successful women entrepreneurs, we help women start and develop their businesses. I mentor start-ups at Hiventures Venture Capital Fund Management Ltd. My goal is to help young entrepreneurs to have successes with less struggle and faster than current entrepreneurs, and to ensure that they don’t have to go abroad to find their way to success.
