DIGITAL BUSINESS

What is digital competence?

“Digital competence involves the confident and critical use of information society technologies (IST) in the field of work, leisure time and communication. It builds on the basic skills in ICT: using a computer to retrieve, evaluate, store, produce, present and exchange information, and to communicate and participate in collaborative networks via the Internet.” (European Parliament and Council)

Why is it necessary?

In the last 15 years, the number of internet users has quadrupled – more than half the world’s population. This shows that digital literacy is essential for success. As technology changes, more and more new high value-added jobs are being created where these skills are becoming core competences.

We can see that digital competencies are of paramount importance as they are prerequisites for innovation and growth. The European Commission has been paying particular attention to the identification and development of digital competences since 2005. How can I develop digital competences?

IGITAL ECONOMY AND SOCIETY INDEX

Becoming a digital business is not an end in itself, but a fundamental economic interest for all businesses, regardless of size or industry.

The later a business enters the path of digitalisation, its lag will be exponentially assessed over time.

On what can we base a secure return on the resources invested?

Hungary has very good internet coverage, ranking 7th among EU Member States, highlighting the high level of 5G coverage.

The Hungarian population is becoming more comfortable and more willing to move online, with 80% of the population using the internet regularly by 2020, which is a 5% increase compared to the previous year.

The proportion of online shoppers among Internet users is increasing, so there is a strong purchasing power in the digital space every day.

The share of online shoppers across the EU in 2020 has been already at 71%. The share of online shoppers among Hungarian Internet users increased by 8% from 2019 to 2020, several times exceeding the growth rate at the EU level.

However, local small and medium-sized enterprises are lagging far behind their regional and EU competitors in terms of the digitalisation of business processes and the provision of digital commercial services.

I particularly recommend the 4-day DigITall training course of the SEED Foundation for self-employed people. With all the work we have to do, it’s a good idea to expand and deepen our knowledge in the field of computer technology and the online world.

The educational material is a very serious, i.e. a concise knowledge base, but you can always put questions if you don’t understand something at first. I liked that we tried a lot of things in practice right after the theoretical part. Sections on the security of my computer, my data were particularly useful for me, as well as what I need to do for example, in order to prevent a hacker from hacking my website.

If you don’t yet know what does exactly mean impact measurement, pinging, herringbone model or how to build a newsletter, don’t hesitate to register for the training.

Cégünk 20 éves működése során mindig nagy hangsúlyt fektetett arra, hogy digitálisan felkészült legyen, illetve korszerű informatikai megoldásokat és During our 20 years of operation, our company has always placed great emphasis on being digitally prepared and using modern IT solutions and tools. That’s why I decided to take part in the 4-day training for further strengthening my preparedness.

The training was very effective and rich in information, the participants had the opportunity to discuss what was said with each other and with the trainer, and the online course was especially suitable for this.

I would be happy to participate in a similar course in the future as well.
